Day 373

On Day 53, ten and a half months ago, my niece called to ask for my help. My brother was very ill. I traveled two hours to get to his home and immediately took him to the emergency room.

The urgent fax that I mentioned on Day 53 was to Johns Hopkins Hospital. My brother had a brain tumor. The day after his first surgery, my husband and I moved to his home so I could care for him and help my niece and nephew. I have gone through such depression because of his prognosis that I have not been able to write. He is in remission now and I am trying to find some peace and rediscover “a nicer world.”

Day 53

My 365 day commitment— a small act of kindness:

I needed to send an urgent fax today. The salesperson noticed my anxiety and went out of her way to speed up the process. I gave her a generous tip to show my appreciation.

Day 52

My 365 day commitment—a small act of kindness:

Today in the grocery store I had quite a few items to buy. The person behind me was in a hurry with just a few items. I let them go ahead of me.

Day 50

My 365 day commitment—a small act of kindness:
Does anyone have a mother who sends food home with you when you visit?

Mine does. Many times my mother makes an extra dish for my husband and me and freezes it. So after every visit, I go home with a bag full of delicious meals, plus yesterday, she added fresh tomatoes from the garden. She’s my travel partner and I think it’s her way of thanking me for taking her places.

We ate a tasty bowl of her vegetable soup today. I called to thank her and let her know how much we enjoyed it.

Day 49 – week 7 complete

Thank you all for supporting my efforts. Yesterday I had the most views ever and it happened to be my birthday. Thanks for my birthday present. 🙂

My 365 day commitment—a small act of kindness:
My husband gave me a beautiful birthday card that said all the things I would say to him in return. To show my appreciation, I decided to cook his favorite breakfast this morning—fried potatoes flavored with onions, scrambled eggs topped with grated cheese, biscuits smothered in my mother’s homemade plum jelly, and fresh blueberries and sliced peaches.

Day 48

My 365 day commitment—a small act of kindness:
I’m concerned about my uncle who recently went to a rehabilitation facility after a fall. I sent an email to my cousin to see how he is doing. She was grateful that I asked and said that he actually took a few steps with a walker today—a big step forward for him.

Day 47

My 365 day commitment—a small act of kindness:
Thanks to the brilliant suggestion of Lesley Carter of Bucket List Publications, I started a “Friends” tab in my menu and listed links to all the blogs I follow to help boost their sites. Of course this helps me too if they reciprocate, so I hope this qualifies as a kind act. 🙂 Find Lesley’s article on The Importance of Social Media here: Bucket List Publications.

Day 46

My 365 day commitment—a small act of kindness:
Today I accommodated someone else’s schedule instead of my own. My customer was frantically getting ready for house guestshis mother in-law and sister in-law were coming to visit. He was rushing here and there to make everything just right. Instead of getting upset about putting my job on hold, I let him tell me his plans for the family gathering and patiently waited until he had time for me.

Day 45

Some days I think I just don’t have time for a nice act. And then I stop to think that it only takes 10-15 minutes to make a phone call or write a letter or email. Certainly I can take that much time out of 24 hours to brighten someone else’s day.

My 365 day commitment—a small act of kindness today:
I decided to check up on one of my nieces who recently got a promotion. Although a compliment to her performance, the new challenge has been stressful. I listened to her concerns and tried to offer encouraging words.
